House For An Art Lover Projects
Several projects have been carried out for the House for an Art Lover in Bellahouston Park.
Peace Cairn. Erected during the Great Empire Exhibition in 1936, which was sited in the park, the peace cairn has inscription stones from members of the peace movement from around the world. One of the few remnants left over from the exhibition it was a bit unseen so we were asked to come up with something to make it a focal point. The globe on the top represents the world and is made with the word peace translated in to about 40 different languages.
Bug Swings. One of the projects ran by House for an Art Lover was a children’s playpark with all the equipment designed by artists. We were commissioned to make these large bug swings.
Window Grill. A third project carried out by the House for and Art Lover was Grounds for Architecture. A new glasshouse was erected with a collection of ferns and carnivorous plants. The access through to the glasshouse was through the gardeners bothy. The view through the window grill on the gardener’s side shows the common names for some of the plants in the glasshouse while on the outside the latin names are used.
